Reiki is a therapy often described as palm healing or hands-on-body healing in which a practitioner places hands lightly on or over a patient's body to facilitate the patient's process of healing. Reiki combines the Japanese and Chinese word-characters of "rei" (spiritual or supernatural) and "ki" (vital energy).

Reiki is a system of self development and original method of healing rediscovered by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It is a natural healing system designed to increase harmony and balance. It works on every level, not just the physical and is understood to promote the bodies regenerative self-healing ability.

A Reiki treatment is an opportunity for you to relax and take time for yourself. After a consultation and explanation of what the treatment involves, your treatment will begin.You will remain fully clothed and be asked to lie on a treatment couch or be seated on a chair. Hands will be placed non-intrusively on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation, Reiki is a non-invasive treatment.

Reiki is benificial for people of all ages, including new born, pregnant mothers, children, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly. It has helped many people with physical and emotional difficulties or stressful periods in their life. It works alongside orthodox medical health care, counselling and other therapies as well as a stand alone treatment.

Reiki practitioners are not trained to diagnose and will not offer any diagnosis or prognosis. If you are concerned about your symptoms you should see your GP.
